About Me
I am a rich white guy (according to Joe Biden’s latest definition of “rich”). I work for a health insurance company now, but in a previous life I was the manager of election polling for the largest polling company in the nation, so I know something about polls and statistics. I am straight, and married, and have never cheated on my wife. We have a beautiful daughter. I eat meat, drink beer, and leave the lights on when I leave a room. I’m proud to say that my first vote for President was for Ronald Reagan in 1984.
Politically, I myself am neither a conservative nor a libertarian; I’m only about 2/3rds of each. I value personal freedom and individual responsibility, believe that the accumulation of wealth is a good thing and a worthy goal for all Americans, fiscal responsibility on the part of the state, and think that government is best that governs least. There’s the 1/3rd overlap between conservative and libertarian.
However, I also believe in a strong national defense, the defense of our national borders, and an aggressive foreign policy that places the nation’s interests squarely at the forefront. There’s the 1/3rd that’s strictly conservative.
I also believe the non-interference of government should extend to the so-called “social issues” and if society is moving in a particular direction when it comes to speech, or homosexual rights, or whatever, then government should get out of the way. I also believe that government should be strictly secular; any individual should be free to worship and believe in whatever way they wish as long as others are not harmed, but any and all instruments of government should eschew religion entirely. Preach in churches, not in courthouses. And there’s my 1/3rd pure libertarian.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a label for someone like me. More’s the pity.
