It turns out that convicted child rapist Roman Polanski is depressed from his stay in the hoosgow in Switzerland.

I know just the thing that’ll cheer him right up. Maybe one of his cell-mates can ply him with drugs and liquor, and have his way with him against his will! That’s a sure road to cheer-up-ville, right there.

Van Jones: Whites Pointing Pollution At Blacks

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder, here is Van Jones (avowed Communist and recently-appointed Green Jobs Czar in the administration of Professor Utopia) saying that white polluters and white environmentalists are “steering” pollution into black communities.

It’s not bad enough that he’s got Communists in his administration. He’s got conspiracy whackaloon Communists in his administration. As non-Congressionally-vetted “czars”. With the power to regulate any business into bankruptcy.

I wonder if he thinks AIDS is a CIA conspiracy against blacks? Maybe he should ask Leon Panetta.

Edward Kennedy 1932 - 2009

I hope my fellow bloggers and others not on the Left will join me in refraining from any inappropriate words at this time, which can only be devastating for the Kennedy family. We might not like his politics, but we must never forget that real people are out there reading these things.

Professor Utopia Makes the Case Against Government Healthcare

And a hearty “thank you” for making the point so eloquently, oh Beloved Leader. Two points about this particular clip.

He flat out admits that private industry (UPS and FedEx) do a *better* job than the government (the USPS). “The post office always has the problems,” he says. If the government option can’t deliver an effing PACKAGE better than private industry, how can we possibly expect it to do a passable job of delivering health care, for crying out loud!?

The second point, which Professor Utopia inexplicably omits from his response, is that there is actually a Federal Law on the books forbidding private firms like UPS and FedEx from competing with the government when it comes to delivering First Class Mail. The Prez himself said private industry competes more effectively than the government, when they’re allowed to. One wonders what would happen if they opened up the playing field completely. Is the government so afraid of being shown up as complete incompetents?

Well, maybe that’s too obvious a question to even ask…

And as far as his repeated point that the current plan wouldn’t undermine private health care, one has to look no further than the first 20 pages. The part where it says that private insurers can’t take on new customers. Won’t destroy the private option? Yeah, right.

Jihadis thrice attacked Pakistan nuclear sites

I often take a light-hearted approach to things that I post here, but this scares the bejeezus out of me:

Pakistan’s nuclear facilities have already been attacked at least thrice by its home-grown extremists and terrorists in little reported incidents over the last two years…

How can that possibly be “little reported”????? This is a country that is already two steps away from an Islamist dictatorship. They’ve tried to assassinate the President ruling military strongman, and apparently there are armed Taliban fighters able to pull off extremely sophisticated attacks in supposedly secure areas of the country.

Am I confident the Obama administration will have the balls to tell the Pakistanis to either let the U.S. take over security over their weapons, or to impose some other solution? A-nope.

Something needs to be done about this.

Flag This, Professor Utopia

The Health Care Insurance Reform initiative is a boondoggle.

Professor Utopia, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, and your minions have been lying about it both in general and in specifics. They have let loose union thugs, ACORN fanatics, and the rest of your thought police community organizers to suppress the genuine feelings of ordinary Americans that are welling up against this insane proposal. You can neither understand it nor tolerate it. They lie about their opponents, tarring them with the most heinous and unsupportable innuendo possible. They encourage American citizens to inform on one another! Goebels did that! They tell the American people to shut up and just let you do what is best for us, despite ourselves. How dare they!

That is not what this country is founded on, Professor.

This country is, first and foremost, founded on our Constitution. And nowhere in it does it give the Federal Government the power to regulate health care. The four words “Promote The General Welfare” were never intended to be a carte blanche to enable the Federal Government to do whatever it wants, to whomever it wants, whenever it wants.

And the specifics of this plan? The $1.5 trillion price-tag is a lowball estimate, and everyone knows it. Does anyone really think nationalizing health care will come in on budget? If the government couldn’t do it for the Apollo moon landing, the Iraq War, and Medicaid, how could they possibly do it for health care? It’s insane.

And there are the outright lies. “No one will be forced to lose their insurance coverage,” he says. Unless, of course, you happen to switch jobs. There’s a clause buried in the 1,000+ pages(!) that states that health insurance companies cannot bring on new clients. I don’t have any hard numbers on turnover rates on health care plan participants, but I cannot help but think that, given the way our economy works, most folks will be at the same job ten years from now. And if the health care insurers can’t bring on any new clients, that means in a decade or two there won’t be any private health care providers. Which is exactly what Obama wants. He’s said so. In those words.

The whole health care reform package is a boondoggle; the people don’t want it, and the polls reflect that. It makes no sense either from the standpoint of improving or broadening care, or economics. The tactics the left is using to stifle and suppress free expression are reprehensible.

Is the Health Care Reform Bill Even Constitutional?

As the Democrat Health Care Reform bill flies through Congress like crap through a goose, because obviously if we delay for even a month (which might even give our elected representatives a chance to read the damn thing) untold tens of thousands of uninsured Americans and non-Americans who happen to be living here (legally or not) will be dropping dead in our streets, I confess that one question that has not been raised by the Usual Suspects is the Constitutionality of the bill.

Now, obviously, ever since John Marshall decided that the Federal Government had the authority to do whatever the hell it wanted (the wording of the Constitution be damned), the concept of the Constitution as a “limiting document” is out the window. Looked at that way, a Federal health care system would be clearly unconstitutional, since no power is given to any branch of the Federal government to do such a thing. However, something struck me tonight as I was watching some of the coverage leading up to Professor Utopia’s press conference, which is this.

Let’s say you move from one job to another. The bill, as written, says that insurance companies cannot take on new customers. So, you’re forced to either take Obamacare or pay a $2,500 fine.

The Ninth Amendment says:

“The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”

The Tenth Amendment says:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Doesn’t that mean that we have a right *not* to take Obamacare? And can we really be penalized for exercising a right?

Well, in this mixed up country, maybe we can. But if the suit made it to the Supreme Court fast enough, we might just have enough Originalist justices that such an argument might work.

Professor Utopia’s First Veto Threat

According to Yahoo! News, Professor Utopia has issued his first threat to employ the veto power against a spending bill. What could it contain? Reams of pork-barrel spending at the taxpayers expense? Foreign aid dollars that will end up in the coffers of known terrorist organizations like Hamas? Research funds to determine the sex habits of the rare Oregonian tree-squid? Oh, no, Gentle Readers.

This particular bill actually contains money to be spent on… wait for it… fighter jets.

Apparently Professor Utopia doesn’t think the nation needs more advanced fighter jets like the F-22. Heavens, can’t have us building fighters that can’t be seen on radar! That wouldn’t be “fair”, now would it? And fairness is the watchword of this administration, even moreso than effectiveness.

Even Dame Pelosi’s House of Representatives thinks we need them.

We can borrow north of a trillion dollars for every harebrained scheme that comes down the pike, most of which will ultimately end up causing more harm than good, but Obama is drawing his line in the sand when it comes to national defense?

I feel like I’ve gone through the looking glass.
